AFAIK the sock is just to catch the stuff, not for frotage type use. There are always socks lying about to use in case of an ejaculatory mess emergency. And when involved in said activities you must have your socks off, because getting into 'the sock gap*' (even solo) is a very bad thing!

*Bonus points for knowledge of what awesome TV series that comes from... I dunno if it ever even made NZ.

Yeah what a great series. I first saw it in the Falklands. At the time every different unit had it's own bar, ours (1435 Flt) was The Goose. Basically 2 rooms knocked into one in our corridor in the accom- full of ejection seats, bits of Argentine a/c (and sigs on the wall of Argy vets!), framed underwear (supersonic knickers.. when you take a girl on a passenger ride and take them super it is traditional for them to present their Mach Pants ), shabby sofas, TV and XBox projector, dancing pole and hot tub!
So the weather is so shit (snowing and blowing 60kts in January FFS) that there is no training flying so we jump on the sofa, under a nice warm duvet, at 930am with the lovely ATC ladies, crack open a John Smiths or a Fosters and watched all the first 3 series over the day. Totally pissed and and totally pissing ourselves, I just love that series
